5 Facts about Peter Tunney

Even if you have never heard the name Peter Tunney, chances are you will recognize his recent artwork. They display huge text that often read “GRATTITUDE”, TODAY IS THE DAY, or “DON’T PANIC”. The text seems to be stenciled over mixed-media collages ranging from newspaper clippings to book text to various photographs. His work breathes life into an optimistic way of seeing the world, and are described as relics of the performance of an artist’s life. His artwork can be found at The Peter Tunney Experience in Wynwood, Miami. His work also makes an appearance at iPic North Miami Beach, and Tunney himself made an appearance at iPic’s Grand Opening Gala in December. Here are 5 fun facts about the legendary New York artist.

1. While riding his bike at the age of 13, he was hit by a car going 60 MPH. He was in a coma for 23 days and spent 5 years in and out of hospitals.

2. At one point he was broke and homeless, living in a nightclub in Crobar.

3. In 1994 he appeared on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. (Big change from #2)

4. He meditates every day.

5. He was financial manager for infamous photographer Peter Beard for a few years, but the partnership ended in a nasty court battle.
